Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m currently 5 months post-op from surgery and have been exercising for almost three weeks. I’ve been doing pushups and more. Suddenly, three days ago, I woke up with a weird feeling like something is rubbing against my back. I’ve had it for three days now, and it’s bothering me, but there’s no pain. What could it be?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The sensation you’re experiencing could be related to muscle or tissue changes as your body adapts to increased physical activity. Here are some possible causes:

  1. Muscle Tightness or Spasms: Resuming exercise after a period of inactivity can sometimes cause muscle tightness or spasms, leading to unusual sensations.
  2. Scar Tissue: Post-surgical scar tissue might create a rubbing or pulling sensation during movement or exercise.
  3. Postural Changes: Changes in posture or muscle balance due to your exercise routine could result in new sensations as your body adjusts.
  4. Nerve Irritation: Mild nerve irritation caused by exercise might result in a sensation of something rubbing against your back.

It’s reassuring that there’s no pain, but it’s essential to monitor the sensation. If it persists or worsens, I recommend consulting with your surgeon or a physical therapist to ensure proper healing and to receive personalized advice tailored to your situation.

Thanks
