Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My mother, who is around 70 years old, has been experiencing body and joint pain for a long time. The pain has been increasing lately, and she experiences knee pain, followed by back pain (sometimes upper and sometimes lower), as well as shoulder pain. The pain reduces with medication but resurfaces in another part of her body. She underwent knee replacement surgery three months ago due to the pain, but she still experiences pain in her back, shoulder, or hands. What could be the reason for this, and is there a permanent solution?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

After undergoing total knee replacement surgery, our comprehensive physiotherapy treatment includes not only strengthening the knee joint, calf, and quadriceps muscles but also focusing on balance in the spine, hip, and upper extremities. It is quite common to observe that individuals with knee replacement or osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee may also have severe degenerative spine conditions and osteoporosis. Therefore, I suggest evaluating X-ray images of the hip, spine, and extremities, as well as checking for bone mineral density. Once we have a complete understanding of these conditions, we can provide suitable solutions.

Thanks
