Hello Doctor,
I accidentally hit my toe next to the big one on the tub a month ago, and it's been swollen and painful ever since. It still won't bend and now it leans and rubs against my big toe. I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. What could be causing this? Is it something that can heal on its own? Should I be concerned? Can it be corrected and heal properly? What steps should I take to make sure it heals well?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Given your symptoms, I recommend getting an X-ray to check for a possible fracture. The treatment will depend on the results. If it's a fracture, it may require immobilization or surgery, especially considering your rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. If it's not a fracture, physical therapy might help.
Thanks
