Hello Doctor,
I accidentally hit my pinky toe really hard, and I think it might be broken. I’ve buddy-taped it, but I’m not sure if I should see a doctor for an X-ray since I’ve heard there’s not much they can do for a broken toe. Should I try to stay off it completely and use crutches, or is it okay to walk on it? What’s the best way to heal it as quickly as possible?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
It would be best to get an X-ray to check for any dislocation or severe fracture. If there’s no dislocation and it’s a simple fracture, most pinky toe fractures can be effectively managed with buddy taping to the adjacent toe for support. Keep the foot elevated to reduce swelling, apply ice packs, and avoid excessive pressure on the toe. If walking is painful, using crutches or limiting weight-bearing activities may help with faster healing. If you notice increasing pain, swelling, or changes in toe alignment, follow up with a doctor for further evaluation.
Thanks
