Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had a distal end femur fracture in my left leg and a fibula shaft fracture in my right leg. I have been on bed rest for the past 3 months, and I'm wondering when I will be able to walk again. Also, can you please confirm if the surgery was successful and if everything was done properly?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. I understand you're concerned about your recovery. It's important to note that distal femur fractures require proper realignment of the bone axis to ensure good knee function. Based on your description, it seems you have a partially dislocated femur fracture that will likely need reduction and possibly casting.

2. Typically, healing for this kind of fracture takes about 6-8 weeks, with the initial 4-6 weeks being non-weight-bearing to allow the bone to heal. However, to give you more precise answers regarding your recovery and walking timeline, I would recommend an orthopedic evaluation. They will be able to assess your fracture and give you a detailed plan tailored to your condition.

Thanks
