Hello Doctor,
I attempted to discontinue the use of Pariet 20 after five years and replaced it with Zantac 300 mg, but the pain has returned below my left rib cage. I decided to stop taking Pariet due to my osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency. Additionally, I am a fibromyalgia patient. Are there any alternatives available to address my issue?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
You have to take gastroprotective medications while taking anti-osteoporosis medications as they cause stomach irritation and inflammation, which may lead to ulceration and serious complications. You have to strictly stay upright after taking oral anti-osteoporosis medication for 45 minutes to one hour. There are more alternative medications to treat osteoporosis that can be taken by other routes, such as injections or taken every month/six months, etc. I do not prefer Zantac as there are more effective drugs with fewer side effects. For example, omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), esomeprazole (Nexium), and pantoprazole (Protonix). Get well soon.
Thanks
