Hello Doctor,
About three years ago, I had an injury just below my knee cap when I was accidentally hit by the claw of a hammer. Since that incident, I've been experiencing pain in the area. The pain varies but feels like being hit all over again, along with a burning sensation. This happens even with just a slight impact. For example, if someone kicks me in the same spot, the pain intensifies quickly, but it fades after a while. However, there's still some irritation when I try to bend my knee completely. I've tried rubbing the area, but it actually makes the pain worse. What could be causing this pain, and is there anything I can do to alleviate it?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on your description, it sounds like you may have a patella sprain involving the superior patellar ligament or cartilage. For treatment, physical therapy combined with shockwave therapy and the use of NSAID creams or wraps might be beneficial in relieving some of the pain and inflammation. However, I strongly recommend consulting with a sports orthopedic specialist for a thorough examination, diagnostic tests, and appropriate treatment plan tailored to your condition. Treatment options may vary depending on your insurance coverage and the severity of the injury.
Thanks
