Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing pain behind my knee in the joint and sometimes in my ankle for over two weeks. The pain occurs when I've been sitting or lying down for a long time, but it's fine when I'm standing or walking around. I haven't seen a doctor yet because I wanted to see if it would improve on its own, but it hasn't gotten better. Can you help me understand what might be causing this and what I should do next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Symptoms and Duration:

Pain behind the knee joint and in the ankle for over two weeks.

Pain occurs after sitting or lying down for a long time but improves when standing or walking.

Possible Causes:

Patellar cartilage inflammation.

Early-stage arthritis affecting cartilage behind the kneecap.

Likely Diagnosis:

Possible problem with the patellofemoral joint.

Pain is more pronounced when getting up from a sitting position, climbing stairs, or getting in and out of a car.

Treatment Recommendations:

If no injury, consider 6-8 weeks of cartilage treatment with CH-Alpha liquid and glucosamine/chondroitin.

Ensure adequate fluid intake (minimum 2 liters per day) to maintain knee cartilage health.

Thanks
