Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have been dealing with a fracture, and it's been 3 weeks since my splint was applied. However, I’m still experiencing pain and discomfort, and it doesn't seem like the fracture is healing. Should I be concerned, or is this normal? What should I do next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Fractures typically take around 6 weeks to consolidate and heal in adults, although this can vary depending on the type of fracture, your overall health, and how well the fracture is being supported. It's not uncommon to experience pain and discomfort during the healing process, especially in the first few weeks. However, if you're still feeling significant pain after 3 weeks, it's important to follow up with your healthcare provider to ensure that the fracture is healing properly and there are no complications. They may need to assess the situation, possibly with an X-ray, and adjust your treatment plan if needed.

Thanks
