Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently got my X-ray results, showing an incomplete transverse fracture at the proximal third of the fifth metatarsal in my left foot. Should I go for a cast, or would a brace be enough?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Mobilization: Use a walking boot and bear weight as tolerated.

Remove the boot during rest and sleep.

Rest and Elevation: Keep your leg straight when resting.

Elevate the leg with two pillows to keep it above heart level if swollen.

Pain Management: Avoid NSAIDs as they can delay healing.

Use paracetamol or narcotic medication as prescribed by your doctor for pain control.

Supplements: Consider taking calcium and vitamin D tablets to enhance fracture healing.

Thanks
