Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I dislocated my hand about two years ago, and now I'm experiencing pain in the same hand again. The pain has been persistent and is affecting my daily activities. I'm concerned that something might be wrong. Could this pain be related to my previous dislocation, or could it be a different issue altogether? What could be causing this pain, and what steps should I take to address it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your description, it seems that the underlying issue could be related to injury in the supporting structures around the joint, such as ligaments and tendons. These injuries can sometimes lead to instability in the joint, which might result in recurrent dislocations or pain.

To better understand what is happening, I recommend getting an MRI of your hand. This imaging will provide detailed information about the soft tissues, including any damage to the ligaments or tendons, and help us determine the extent of the injury.

Once we have the MRI results, we can discuss the best treatment options for you. Treatment may include physical therapy, bracing, or, in some cases, surgical intervention if the instability is significant.

Thanks
