Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had a ganglion cyst aspirated and treated with a cortisone injection on the back of my wrist two weeks ago. The area is still sore and slightly red. I’ve also noticed a small bump at the same spot where the cyst was. Could this be from the steroid injection or is it something I should be concerned about?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. The symptoms you're experiencing are not typically caused by the steroid injection. Steroids are anti-inflammatory and are designed to reduce swelling and pain. It's normal for the area to remain sore and slightly red for a short period after the procedure.

2. I would suggest being patient for the next 7-10 days, as these symptoms should gradually improve. However, if the bump and soreness persist beyond that timeframe, it may be a good idea to schedule an ultrasound of the wrist to check for any underlying issues.

Thanks
