Hello Doctor,
I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome 2 years ago. Over the last week, the pain has become unbearable. There’s a sharp, shooting pain through my wrist and thumb, and up the back of my arm. I wear a brace, I’ve tried applying hot and cold. Nothing gives me relief. Do you have any suggestions? Also, can an E.R. doctor treat pain due to carpal tunnel?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. If your diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome is correct, using a brace and pain relievers can help manage the pain to some extent.
2. However, the most effective way to address the condition long-term is to relieve the pressure on the trapped nerve, which typically requires surgical intervention.
3. I recommend discussing your options with a specialist to determine the best course of action.
Thanks
