Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 15-year-old girl that’s been trying to lose fat for 2 years. I strength train and powerlift, walk 10,000 steps a day, eat healthy, and consume fewer calories than I burn (caloric deficit), however nothing ever seems to work. What can I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It sounds like you’re already doing a fantastic job with your strength training, powerlifting, and maintaining an active lifestyle by walking 10,000 steps a day. However, weight loss can be challenging, especially during the teenage years when your body is still developing. Here are some tailored suggestions:

  1. Intermittent Fasting: Consider trying intermittent fasting for two days each week. This method can help regulate your eating patterns and may enhance your metabolism. On non-fasting days, aim to have your breakfast around 10-11 AM.

  2. Balanced Meals: For breakfast on fasting days, focus on nutrient-dense options like fruits or legumes. Ensure you're hydrating well throughout the day, aiming for plenty of water intake.

  3. Healthy Lunch: For lunch, a small portion of boiled rice with a flavorful sauce can provide the necessary energy without excessive calories.

  4. Reduce Unhealthy Ingredients: Aim to minimize your intake of salt, sugar, and total fat. This can help your body respond better to your diet and exercise efforts.

  5. Nutritious Dinner: For dinner, incorporating grilled fish with fruits or legumes can be both satisfying and beneficial for your weight loss goals.

  6. Consistent Activity: Continue with your daily sports or walking routine for at least 30 minutes, as this will keep your metabolism active.

Remember, weight loss is a gradual process, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s essential to find a routine that feels sustainable and healthy for you. If you’re interested in personalized guidance, don’t hesitate to book a consultation with our doctors for tailored support and advice.
