Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I injured my shoulder during a football game today, and I think it might be a sprain. I’m having significant pain when trying to lift my arm above halfway, and it feels weak and stiff. How can I tell if it’s a mild, moderate, or severe sprain (Type I, II, or III)? Should I get it checked out, or is there anything I can do at home to help with the pain and healing?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your symptoms, you likely have a shoulder sprain, possibly Grade I or II. Rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relievers may help, but an evaluation is needed to determine the severity. I recommend scheduling an appointment for a proper assessment and treatment plan to ensure a full recovery.

Thanks
