Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Why does my ankle keep swelling two months after an injury when nothing was broken? I hurt my ankle a while ago, but the swelling still hasn't gone down completely, and it seems to happen even though I haven’t been doing anything that would make it worse. I thought it would heal by now, but the swelling persists. What could be causing this, and should I be concerned?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. If your ankle is still swelling after two months despite no fractures, it could be due to lingering inflammation or soft tissue damage. One potential home remedy is using turmeric, which has anti-inflammatory properties.

2. You can mix turmeric powder with a small amount of water to create a paste and apply it to the swollen area.

3. Use this paste consistently for about two months, and it may help reduce the swelling. However, if the swelling persists or worsens, I recommend consulting with a healthcare professional for a more thorough evaluation to rule out any other underlying causes.

Thanks
