Patient Question

Hello Doctor

What might cause sudden knee weakness and pain during hacksquats? I experienced discomfort and clicking in my knee afterward. Doctor advised Advil for a week, but seeking additional advice.

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Possible Knee Injury:

 1. Acute Strain: Sudden weakness and pain during hacksquats could indicate an acute strain, possibly due to improper form or excessive strain.

 2. Cartilage Issue: Clicking sensation and persistent pain suggest potential cartilage damage, such as a meniscal tear.

Recommendations:

 1. Rest and Ice: Rest the knee and apply ice packs to reduce inflammation and pain.

 2. Avoid Aggravating Activities: Refrain from activities that worsen pain or clicking sensation.

 3. Medication: Take over-the-counter pain relievers as advised by a doctor.

 4. Consult a Specialist: Seek evaluation from an orthopedic specialist for further assessment and possible MRI.

 5. Consider Physical Therapy: If necessary, engage in physical therapy for strengthening and stability exercises.

Thanks
