Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've had multiple surgeries on my left knee over the past seven years, and now I'm experiencing arthritis. I can't bend my knee to its full range; it's stuck at about 90 to 95 degrees, and I'm having difficulty walking. What could be causing this?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It appears your knee is experiencing significant issues. Priority should be given to achieving pain-free movement and good stability. The problem seems to stem from an incorrect position of the kneecap, tight quadriceps, and a bipartite patella with misalignment. The joint line seems fine, but there may be a patellofemoral glide issue causing the locking sensation.

To address this and potentially avoid surgery, I recommend:

1. cH Alpha Kollagen for cartilage protection for eight weeks

2. Glucosamine 1000mg in the morning and 500mg in the evening for eight weeks

3. Bromelain for its anti-inflammatory properties

4. Local wraps with topical NSAIDs like Voltaren 2% emulsion

5. Hyaluron injections with low molecular weight for joint lubrication

Thanks
