Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing swelling in my hands and feet, which is causing stiffness and making it difficult for me to walk at times. There's also some slight swelling near the outside of my mouth, next to my lip. Additionally, my knees feel creaky and unstable. I work out regularly at the gym, but I'm starting to wonder if this could be related to an autoimmune condition. Could this be the case?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

1. The symptoms you're describing could be due to a variety of conditions, and autoimmune diseases are certainly a possibility. It’s important to have a thorough assessment by your physician, who can request appropriate laboratory tests to help identify the underlying cause.

2. While I could provide a more specific suggestion if I had pictures of the affected areas, I strongly recommend that you see a healthcare provider as soon as possible. Early diagnosis is crucial in preventing any potential damage to vital organs like the kidneys, heart, brain, and eyes. Your physician will be able to guide you toward the right course of action.

Thanks
