Hello Doctor,
I have swelling at the site of my injury, but the whole finger is swollen, especially the fingertip. This has been constant ever since I had the stitches put in. Is this normal?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Swelling in the finger, especially around the site of stitches, can be common during the healing process. However, the swelling should gradually decrease as the wound heals. If the swelling persists or increases, it might indicate an infection or other complications, so it’s important to monitor it closely. If you're concerned, I recommend consulting your doctor to evaluate the wound and ensure proper healing.
2. They may also suggest imaging or tests, depending on the severity of your symptoms. For any underlying concerns like thyroid imbalances that could contribute to swelling, an ultrasound (echo) and thyroid function tests like TSH, T3, and T4 levels might be helpful to assess.
Thanks
