Patient Question
Hello Doctor, I believe I may have carpal tunnel syndrome. Could you please explain the symptoms and advise me on how to treat it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms:

1. Numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers

2. Pain in the wrist or hand, sometimes extending up the arm

3. Weakness in grip strength

To alleviate symptoms and manage carpal tunnel syndrome, you can try the following:

Rest: Avoid activities that worsen your symptoms and give your hands and wrists a break.

Splinting: Wearing a wrist splint, especially at night, can help keep your wrist in a neutral position and reduce pressure on the median nerve.

Ice Packs: Applying ice packs to your wrist can help reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort.

Exercises: Gentle nerve gliding exercises can help improve flexibility and reduce pressure on the median nerve.

Medications: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can help alleviate pain and inflammation.

A doctor can provide further evaluation and suggest additional treatments, such as physical therapy or surgery, if necessary.

Thanks
