Hello Doctor,
I accidentally shoved a flat, almost aluminum foil-like metal seal under my nail while opening a paint container last Saturday morning. Now, five days later, the tip of my nail has turned white underneath, and it’s causing excruciating pain. My finger is also super swollen to the point where I can’t straighten it. Six days later, the pain is still intense, and I’m concerned. How can I tell if it's infected, and should I go to the ER for this?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on your description, it sounds like your finger may be infected, especially since the pain has persisted for several days and there is significant swelling. It’s important to get it checked by a healthcare professional to ensure proper treatment, as untreated infections can worsen. I recommend seeing a doctor as soon as possible for evaluation and appropriate care. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Thanks
