Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I received a flu vaccine last week, and since then, I've noticed swollen lymph nodes in my neck, head, and groin, along with pink-red rashes on my arms and legs. Is this considered a normal reaction?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

If you've had an unusual reaction to a vaccine, it's wise to consider a test dose before future vaccinations, particularly if you think you might be sensitive to its ingredients. I want to emphasize that it is not typical for someone to experience a reaction like the one you've described after receiving a vaccine. Your symptoms, such as swollen lymph nodes, pink-red rashes on your arms and legs, appear to be indicative of an allergic or urticaria-like reaction.

This reaction may suggest that your immune system is reacting in an unusual manner to the vaccine. You can try taking loratadine 10mg every 12 hours and prednisone 10mg every 8 hours for five days to relieve your symptoms. But please consult a healthcare professional before starting any medication regimen to ensure it's appropriate for your specific condition and medical history.

Thanks
