Hello Doctor,
I was playing softball and got hit in the foot by a pitch. Now, my big toe hurts, and it’s painful to move it. There’s some bruising and swelling, but it’s not too bad. What should I do to treat it, and is there anything I should be concerned about?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Given the pain, bruising, and swelling in your big toe after being hit by the pitch, it’s important to get an X-ray of your foot. This will help confirm whether there’s a fracture or if it’s a sprain involving the ligaments.
2. In the meantime, I recommend resting the foot, applying ice to reduce swelling, and elevating it to minimize discomfort. If the pain worsens or you notice any changes in the swelling or bruising, seek medical attention immediately.
Thanks
