Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been experiencing vaginal pain and irritation, with a throbbing pain and burning sensation when I urinate. The pain feels like it's shooting in my genital area and down my leg. Could this be a sign of an infection or something else? What should I do to find relief?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Based on your symptoms, it sounds like you might be dealing with a urinary tract infection (UTI). To confirm this, you will need to undergo urinary tests, including cultures, to check for any bacterial infection. In addition, we should rule out a pelvic infection, as it can occur alongside a UTI.

2. Once the results are in, the appropriate course of antibiotics will be prescribed by your treating physician. It’s important to stay hydrated, so make sure to drink plenty of fluids. You may also be prescribed urinary analgesics to help manage the discomfort while you’re recovering.

Thanks
