Hello Doctor,
My eGFR was 112 and creatinine was 0.98, and after 4 months it is now 90 and 1.03, respectively. Sometimes, when I drink a lot of water, I feel a burning sensation after peeing and it feels like some pee is stuck inside. When I try to discharge the leftover pee, it hurts. However, this doesn’t happen all the time, only when I drink 1-2 glasses of water in a short period of time. Otherwise, I don't have any problems. My USG is normal. Is this a serious condition? I’m a 22-year-old male.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the response to your query below:
Based on your symptoms and the changes in your kidney function, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider as soon as possible. The burning sensation and discomfort you experience after drinking water could indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI) or another kidney-related issue.
UTIs are common and can lead to symptoms such as pain or burning during urination, frequent urges to urinate, and the sensation of incomplete emptying of the bladder, which seems to align with what you are describing. The changes in your eGFR levels and your increased creatinine levels also warrant further investigation, as they can indicate how well your kidneys are functioning.
It's important to consider that while your ultrasound (USG) results are normal, other factors could still affect your urinary health. These might include dehydration, dietary choices, or even stress on the urinary tract. Given your symptoms and the changes in your kidney function, I strongly recommend seeking medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform additional tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment.
In the meantime, try to maintain good hydration, avoid irritants such as caffeine and alcohol, and monitor your symptoms closely. If you experience worsening symptoms, such as fever, chills, or severe pain, seek immediate medical attention.
Thanks
