Hello Doctor,
Hi! I am 16 years old and whilst in Lanzarote, I noticed that I have started to produce a lot more discharge than normal, and it's yellow. I do not have any other symptoms in regards to my vagina. I have very irregular periods, and have for 5 years; there are always months between each period, and they are very, very light. I have PCOS symptoms, including excessive hair growth, thinning hair, weight gain, and irregular/no periods. I got tested for PCOS, had an ultrasound, and had my blood and hormones tested, and everything came back perfect. What is happening?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
The irregular menstruation and yellow discharge you are experiencing may suggest the presence of an internal infection. It is important to assess several factors: Have your periods always been irregular, or has this irregularity developed over the past five years? Additionally, it would be beneficial to know if you have initiated any treatments recently. Have you noticed similar symptoms in any family members, such as your sisters or mother?
The symptoms resembling polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can also be indicative of other hormonal imbalances, which may involve the adrenal glands, thyroid gland, or other medical conditions. A comprehensive examination is essential to evaluate each of these symptoms, as multiple factors may be contributing to your situation.
For an accurate diagnosis, I highly recommend scheduling consultations with both a gynecologist and an endocrinologist. They will be able to conduct a thorough physical examination and may recommend additional testing to help clarify your concerns.
Thank you!
