Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 22-year-old female with PCOS and high testosterone. I took spironolactone for six months, then Diane-35 for another six months, but saw no improvement. Why isn’t my body responding to treatment?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Your response may depend on factors like weight, insulin resistance, and hormone levels. Further tests, including blood sugar, insulin, and LH/FSH ratio, along with an ultrasound, can provide more clarity. If excessive hair growth persists, removal methods can help while monitoring new growth. PCOS treatment is long-term, and if medications don’t work, laparoscopic options may be considered. Follow up with a specialist for personalized management.

Thanks
