Hello Doctor,
I’m 29 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS at 19, but I only experienced irregular periods for about six months back then. Since having my daughter in December 2022, my cycles have been regular, except I missed my last period in December 2024. I've been tracking my LH levels and cervical mucus for ovulation signs, but I haven’t seen a clear spike yet. I was also under a lot of stress over the holidays. Is it safe for me to start trying to conceive now, or should I take any precautions before trying?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Yes, you can start trying to conceive. Since your cycles have been regular after childbirth and you’ve been tracking ovulation signs, your chances of conception are promising. Stress can sometimes delay ovulation, so that may explain your missed period.
2. To optimize your chances, continue monitoring your ovulation with LH tests and cervical mucus changes. Maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and prenatal vitamins, especially folic acid. If you don’t conceive within six months, consider consulting a fertility specialist to assess ovulation and hormone levels. But for now, you can go ahead and try.
Thanks
