Hello Doctor,
I have PCOS and was prescribed birth control in July to help with long and heavy bleeding that lasted over 28 days. It worked for a while, but now I’m experiencing the same issue again. The bleeding won’t stop, and I don’t know what to do. Is this normal? How can I stop the bleeding and manage this better?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. You need a thorough evaluation, including blood tests, to assess your hormone levels and overall health. Additionally, I need more details such as your age, weight, and any other symptoms like excessive hair growth, acne, or a history of diabetes.
2. Persistent bleeding in PCOS can sometimes be linked to endometrial changes, which require an ultrasound or scan to rule out hyperplasia or early cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). This isn’t a one-time treatment; managing PCOS-related bleeding often requires ongoing care. Consulting both a gynecologist and an endocrinologist is essential to determine the best course of action for long-term management.
Thanks
