Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I took molly (MDMA) mixed with bottled water around 12:30 AM, and I also took an antidepressant the morning before. It's been 8 hours since then. Am I at risk of overdosing, and what should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, combining MDMA (molly) with an antidepressant can be risky, even if it's been 8 hours since you took the substances. MDMA can interact with certain antidepressants, especially selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), leading to a dangerous condition called serotonin syndrome. Symptoms of serotonin syndrome can include agitation, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, fever, and confusion, among others. While you may not feel the full effects right away, the risk of overdose or serious side effects is still present.

Thanks
