Hello Doctor,
I’m 43 and have autism. I struggle with hormone-related issues that affect my mood and daily life. A doctor mentioned that Lupron injections or the Supprelin LA implant might help. Can I take either of these at my age, and would they help with my symptoms?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on current medical literature, there is limited evidence to support the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) treatments like Lupron or Supprelin LA specifically for managing symptoms related to autism in adults. These medications are typically used for conditions such as central precocious puberty or hormone-sensitive cancers.
2. That said, each patient is unique, and if hormones are significantly affecting your well-being, it’s worth discussing further with an endocrinologist. They can assess your hormone levels and overall health to see if any treatment, hormonal or otherwise, might help with your symptoms.
Thanks
