Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My dog recently licked a very small scratch on my finger. He was vaccinated against rabies about 7 months ago, and I am also vaccinated. Should I be worried about rabies, and do I need to get another anti-rabies shot?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

No, you don’t need another anti-rabies shot since your dog was vaccinated recently and you are also vaccinated. The risk of rabies in this situation is very low. Just make sure to keep the scratch clean and avoid dirt or bacteria getting into the wound. Monitor it for any signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or pain, and seek medical advice if these occur.

Thanks
