Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had a boxer's fracture in my hand about two years ago, and while it healed fine, I never went through physical therapy. Lately, I’ve been experiencing some issues with that same hand. Sometimes, my hand tenses up, and I have to flex my palm and fingers to relieve the tightness. When this happens, I can't move my hand at all. I work in a kitchen, and these episodes usually occur while I’m on the line.

Additionally, I occasionally feel discomfort in my wrist and the top of my hand, but that’s not as frequent. I can’t recall exactly where the fracture was, but I’m starting to worry about these symptoms. What could be causing this, and what should I do?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It sounds like your symptoms may be related to nerve or muscle issues, especially since you didn't undergo physical therapy after your boxer's fracture. The tension and inability to move your hand could indicate that the nerves or muscles are being affected.

Given that you work in a kitchen and use your hands frequently, it's important to address these issues promptly. I recommend visiting a neurologist or a hand specialist for a thorough examination. They can assess your condition and determine the best course of action, which may include physical therapy, exercises, or other treatments to help alleviate your symptoms and restore function.

Thanks
