Hello Doctor,
I'm experiencing troubling symptoms after receiving cortisone injections for my arthritis pain. Is it possible for these injections to worsen the pain? After receiving a cortisone injection for knee pain, I noticed that within 7-10 days, the pain became severe, making it difficult for me to walk. Similarly, I experienced intense pain and difficulty sitting, lying down, or walking after a hip injection. To manage the pain until my next appointment, I've been taking 4 ibuprofen every 4-6 hours.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Yes, it's possible for cortisone injections to worsen pain in some cases. Cortisone injections provide temporary relief by reducing inflammation, but they do not address the underlying cause of the pain. Therefore, when the effects of the cortisone wear off, the pain can return, sometimes even more severely.
Given your experience with worsening pain after cortisone injections, it's crucial to seek further evaluation and treatment. Consulting with a doctor is essential to understand the underlying issues contributing to your symptoms and to determine the best course of action.
During your consultation, the doctor will conduct a thorough assessment, which may include a physical examination and possibly additional diagnostic tests. Based on the findings, the doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to address your specific needs and concerns.
I'm here to assist you throughout this process and provide support every step of the way. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or if you would like to schedule a consultation. Your health and well-being are our top priorities.
Thanks
