Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My mother has been prescribed Neuroped syrup for her ankylosing spondylitis. Could you please advise me on whether this syrup is safe for her? She is a heart patient, has high blood pressure, and is diabetic. Can she safely take this syrup considering her medical conditions? Her doctor prescribed it.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Regarding Neuroped, it contains folic acid and B12, so there should be no problem using it. However, I noticed that the prescription also includes tofacitinib, which is used to treat ankylosing spondylitis. It is generally beneficial, except if she has ischemic heart disease. In such cases, it should be avoided as this drug may increase the risk of vascular heart diseases.

Thanks
