Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been feeling itching around my clitoris, and I’ve noticed a solid white discharge, almost like butter, coming from my vagina. What could it be, and what should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Based on your symptoms, it sounds like you might have a yeast infection, which is a common condition caused by an overgrowth of yeast in the vaginal area. You can try an over-the-counter treatment like Monistat (miconazole), available as creams or suppositories. Alternatively, you can consult your doctor for a prescription for an oral antifungal medication like Diflucan (fluconazole), usually taken as a single-dose pill.

2. In the meantime, avoid wearing tight clothing, using scented products, or douching, as these can worsen irritation. If your symptoms persist for more than a few days after treatment or you notice additional symptoms like fever, abdominal pain, or a strong odor, please consult a doctor immediately to rule out other potential issues.

Thanks
