Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My wife recently had a health test, and the nurse advised her to lose weight due to a high BMI. However, she is happy with her weight and feels healthy. She is 32, 5'7", and weighs 265 lbs. She’s fit, active, and has a great sex life. We believe the nurse's advice was unfair and would appreciate a second opinion.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. While I understand your concerns, it’s important to note that a high BMI can expose your wife to various health risks, such as heart disease, diabetes, and joint problems. Losing weight can help reduce these risks, even if she feels fit and active.

2. I recommend that she incorporate at least 30 minutes of physical exercise most days of the week. Additionally, following a balanced and healthy diet will be key to managing her weight. If you would like more personalized guidance, I suggest scheduling a consultation with us so we can assist you in creating a suitable plan.

Thanks
