Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently had a CECT, and the report came back normal, except for an intestinal infection indicated by mucosal fold thickening in the jejunal and ileal loops, along with subcentimeter-sized mesenteric lymph nodes measuring 9x7mm, possibly indicating non-specific jejunoilitis. The doctor advised against taking antibiotics. How will the inflammation and infection resolve, especially with an elevated ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) of 53? Additionally, I have experienced weight loss. Can probiotics alone help with the treatment?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Hopefully, you are doing fine. Probiotics are not approved for addressing the CT findings mentioned. If you are experiencing weight loss, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or anemia, I recommend undergoing upper and lower GI endoscopy. If you are asymptomatic, it is advisable to repeat the CRP (C-reactive protein) test after a few weeks. All the best.

Thanks
