Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have shingles on my face, and today it has spread to my mouth. There are no visible sores, just a nagging toothache. Can I use Orajel or a similar product like I would for a regular toothache to relieve the discomfort?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Shingles typically causes pain and can affect areas like the face and mouth. It’s important to confirm the diagnosis with a healthcare professional, as treatment may vary depending on the stage and severity of the condition.

2. While Orajel can help relieve toothache-like discomfort temporarily, it may not address the underlying shingles symptoms. I recommend seeing a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan to manage your condition effectively.

Thanks
