Hello Doctor,
I developed a rash on my arm in two places—one on my inner bicep/tricep and another on the top of my forearm. I was prescribed a steroid cream along with H1 and H2 antihistamines three days ago, and I started treatment immediately. However, instead of improving, the rash has continued to worsen. It is raised from my skin and is spreading slowly. Should I be concerned that the treatment isn’t working, and at what point should I seek further medical attention?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Your symptoms may suggest brachial shingles (herpes zoster), especially if there's pain. This viral rash spreads along nerves and often starts with burning or tingling. Since it's worsening despite treatment, a doctor should reassess it. If shingles, early antiviral treatment (acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir) can help. Watch for fever, severe pain, blisters, or infection signs, and seek medical attention if needed.
Thanks
