Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I am a 36-year-old woman experiencing pain in my waist and left buttocks. Two months ago, I noticed a rash in the same area, which has now spread to my stomach. The rash appears red, is painful, itchy, and has small bumps on it. I was prescribed Tydineal cream, but it caused a lot of pain and a burning sensation. Could you please advise me on what to do next? Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen regarding your concerns.

I understand that you're experiencing discomfort, and I appreciate you providing detailed information about your symptoms.Based on the description you've provided, it's important to consider various possibilities. One potential explanation for your symptoms could be shingles, which is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus responsible for chickenpox. Shingles often manifests as a painful rash accompanied by blisters and typically affects one side of the body. However, without conducting a physical examination, it's challenging to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.

Considering your discomfort with the Tydineal cream, it's advisable to discontinue its use immediately. A healthcare professional will conduct a thorough examination of the rash, possibly performing further diagnostic tests if necessary, to determine the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment.

In the event that the diagnosis is indeed shingles, antiviral medications may be prescribed to expedite the healing process and minimize the risk of complications. Meanwhile, maintaining cleanliness of the affected area and refraining from scratching can help prevent potential secondary infections. Over-the-counter pain relievers may offer some relief from the discomfort, and applying a cool compress can help alleviate itching.

It's important to note that the advice provided here is general in nature, and individual cases may vary. Therefore, seeking personalized medical guidance is paramount for effective management of your condition.

Thank you for entrusting us with your health concerns. Should you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,
