Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

After my syphilis was cured (within a week of infection), it has been about a year already. I have loose skin where I had the sore that never got back to normal tightness. Is that from scarring? The other sore not on the head of my penis returned to normal, but the one on the head did not. I'm thinking it may be one of the blood sack areas that was damaged but have no idea besides those.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Syphilis can cause skin changes, including scarring, especially if not treated promptly. After a year, the loose skin on your penis may be due to scarring from the initial infection. The fact that the sore on the head of your penis did not heal properly suggests that the infection may have affected the blood vessels in that area, leading to persistent damage and scarring. It is possible that the blood vessels in that area were damaged, causing the skin to remain loose. However, without a proper examination, it is difficult to determine the exact cause without a medical evaluation.

Thanks
