Hello Doctor,
Had a penis injury during sex. About a day after, I noticed a bit of blood (expected because of what happened) and some discharge. A couple of days after that, I noticed some itching and burning when I pee. I got a prescription for fosfomycin, the infection went away, however, my urethra wasn’t healed. Within a week or so, the itching, burning, and discharge came back. I got the medication again, and again it worked, and now a week later it’s back.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
The symptoms you’re experiencing after a penis injury, such as blood, discharge, itching, and burning during urination, suggest that there might be an underlying issue that wasn’t fully addressed with the initial treatment. Possible causes for these recurring symptoms include infections like sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, or herpes, which can cause similar symptoms and may persist or return if not fully treated. Another possibility is balanitis, an inflammation of the foreskin or glans, often due to infections or poor hygiene. Urethritis, which is inflammation of the urethra, may also be causing burning during urination and discharge, and it can result from infections or irritation. Additionally, the physical injury you experienced could lead to secondary inflammation or infections, which may not heal completely if the root cause is not addressed.
Given that the symptoms have returned, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may recommend tests to rule out STIs or other infections that could be contributing to your symptoms. It’s also advisable to maintain proper hygiene, avoid irritants like scented soaps, and refrain from sexual activity until a thorough examination and treatment are completed. Persistent symptoms require a comprehensive evaluation to ensure proper diagnosis and effective treatment.
