Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Why do I experience frequent and heavy nosebleeds, particularly from my left nostril, since childhood, often triggered by slight touches or coughing, even before getting a septum piercing? What could be causing this persistent issue and what steps should I take to address it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Nasal Trauma: Slight touches or impacts, such as from coughing or gentle contact, may trigger nosebleeds. This could indicate underlying fragility of blood vessels in the nose.

Nasal Septum Piercing: While a septum piercing might exacerbate the issue due to potential irritation or disruption of nasal tissues, the problem seems to predate the piercing, suggesting other contributing factors.

Underlying Medical Conditions: Conditions such as allergies, sinus infections, or structural abnormalities within the nose (e.g., deviated septum) could increase susceptibility to nosebleeds. Be aware of the first aid if you got nosebleed. Compress your nose tip by your fingers and wait for about 5 to 10 minutes Never to elevate your head as the blood may find it's way to your lung

Vascular Abnormalities: Weakness or abnormalities in the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa may predispose an individual to frequent nosebleeds.

Thanks
