Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently pierced my nose septum about 2 or 3 days ago, and now I’ve noticed a raised area on just one side of my nostril. It starts from the bottom and goes up towards the back of the piercing hole. When I press on it, it feels soft and squishy. I'm worried it might be a septal hematoma, but I'm not sure. Could swelling cause it to feel this way?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your description, it’s important to have the area examined carefully by an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor to rule out a septal hematoma. Swelling around a new piercing can sometimes feel soft and squishy, but a proper examination will help determine if it's just normal swelling or something that needs more attention. It's best to get this checked out as soon as possible to ensure proper care and avoid any potential complications.

Thanks
