Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

About seven months ago, I underwent a septoplasty procedure because my nasal septum was deviated, causing blockage in my nose. Unfortunately, even after the surgery, I still experience daily nasal congestion. It's often accompanied by thick, yellowish, or sometimes clear fluid. I've been dealing with this issue for several years now. Along with the congestion, I also suffer from headaches and fluid draining down my throat. I sought help from an ENT specialist who performed the septoplasty, but the problem persists. I'm reaching out to you for your expertise to guide me on further evaluation and possible treatment options

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It appears to be a sinus infection and requires precautionary measures. Ensure all bedding, pillow covers, and floor mats are washed in warm water either weekly or once every two weeks. Hydration is crucial, so drink plenty of water. Regular walks in open-air spaces like parks, gardens, or terraces for 15-20 minutes, at least thrice a week, can be beneficial.

Avoid prolonged exposure to air conditioning. If dusting or sweeping is ongoing in your home, wear a mask or step out of the area until it's complete. Cut down on spicy, oily, and fried foods. Incorporating pranayama, yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises into your routine is essential.

The suggested treatment plan includes Tab Augmentin 625 mg, to be taken 1-0-1 for five days after breakfast and dinner. Tab Levosiz M should be taken 0-0-1 for ten days after dinner. Tab Vetory SP is to be taken 1-0-1 for three days after breakfast and dinner. Cap Pepcia D should be taken 1-0-0 for five days before breakfast. Otrivin nasal drops, three drops in each nostril, should be administered thrice a day for five days.

After a week, discontinue the nasal drops and begin using a fluticasone nasal spray, one puff in each nostril, twice a day for a minimum of three months.

Thanks
