Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I think I might have POTS, but I’m not sure. My symptoms, like nausea, weakness when standing for too long, and occasional tremors in my legs and hands, only happen once a month but seem to be getting worse. I suspect it could be related to Long Covid or another illness. What should I do next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Based on what you’ve described, it’s possible that you may be experiencing signs of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), but it’s important to rule out other potential causes. I recommend scheduling an appointment with your primary care physician.

2. During this visit, you should have a 12-lead EKG and blood pressure measurements taken both while standing and while lying down (supine).

3. These tests will help to assess any abnormalities in your cardiovascular system that may be contributing to your symptoms.

4. Based on the results, your primary care physician may refer you to a cardiologist for further evaluation and specialized care. Please be sure to share all the details of your symptoms during your visit so that your doctor can provide you with the best care plan.

Thanks
