Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Does ALS cause muscle twitching that comes and goes? For example, if a muscle twitches for a week, then stops for two weeks, and comes back in the same spot later, could this still be something benign, especially if there’s no weakness or atrophy?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The simple answer is that muscle twitching without weakness or atrophy is more likely to be benign. However, ALS symptoms typically progress over time, so it's important to follow up with your neurologist for a thorough evaluation to rule out any concerns.

Thanks
