Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've noticed a rash developing on the 7th day of taking amoxicillin. Should I be concerned about this? Is this a common side effect, or could it be something more serious? What should I do next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, it is possible to develop an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, even after the first dose or later in the course of treatment. The rash you're experiencing could be a sign of such an allergy. It's important to stop taking the amoxicillin immediately and consult your healthcare provider. They may recommend taking an antihistamine to help manage the rash and any other allergic symptoms. If the rash persists or worsens, or if you experience difficulty breathing or swelling, seek urgent medical attention. Always inform your doctor about any drug reactions to avoid future complications.

Thanks
